The future will become the present, and then the past, no matter what you do. Why not step into it with purpose?
Have you, or someone you know, found yourself saying things like:
- When my ship comes in
- The dream has always been
- Someday, things will be different
- When the kids grow
- When I make $xxxx
- I just need to ride this storm out until retirement
- FILL IN THE BLANK ______________________
Hey, I have owned some of these phrases during my life, living in some never reachable future, and not really living in this moment.
So, if you are anything like me, you keep waiting for that amazing thing to happen in the future that will be the key to your happiness or your freedom. You believe your choices are finite right now and that you will have so many more choices available when your life circumstances change. Maybe you’re under the assumption that life is tough, and it takes hard work now for future rewards.
Then you find yourself surprised when the plans you had in place, the image of what you were striving for, the happiness you thought you were aiming for all disappear.
I am not suggesting you drop the dream, but a dream without action becomes a nightmare.
I am suggesting that you hold the feeling of that dream in your heart and move toward it with intention, focused on what you are able to do in this moment to realize that vision.
Then, every time you catch yourself unhappy with the here and now and notice you are saying a “someday” phrase, bring yourself back by reminding yourself to focus on the one small thing you can do today that would move you forward. Make one connection, one conversation, one email, one blog, one social post just one small thing that creates the motion forward while you act right now. When you are focused in the moment you realize there’s nothing that can steer you off course.
So, how can you stop the cycle of waiting for the future?
Returning to the present has many techniques, allow me to share one you can do right now.
Pay attention to your body and how you feel while saying these words:
“Right now, is all I have. There is only what is in front of me.”
Notice what you are feeling in your feet, legs, abdomen, and your breath. Become intensely present in what’s going on now. If you feel any resistance or pain, ask it to step aside for this moment and say:
“Each day of focused intention brings me the life I want to live.”
How is your body feeling? What sounds are you aware of? What do you see, hear, smell?
“I am fully alive in each moment of my journey.”
Feel the energy of these words move, like a wave, from the top of your head to the tip of your toes. Feel each muscle give way to the feeling of relaxation.
Now, take action on one thing you can do differently than you did before. One thing that brings you closer to your heart’s desire.
Your future is becoming your present, and then your past, no matter what you do. You can choose to step into it with purpose.
Allow yourself to feel worthy of your dream. You don’t have to do this alone. Allow yourself to have someone at your side guiding you through the barriers that could hold you back. Someone who has done it and is willing to go through it with you.
It takes intentionally taking hold of your life.
Let’s talk and see if I am that someone for you. Schedule our discovery meeting today.
